So there are various aspects of analysis I’d like to dip into, because this is the highest level of analysis, but I want to incorporate info such that a wrestler has certain win %/rank — how they deal with other wrestlers, etc.
Think of somebody who has to switch up approach because someone is heavier/taller/shorter/faster.
That's a great idea! I'll definitely have to explore that in the future. I'm trying to fill the data gap but I def wish there were folks in Sumo doing like what we have in (American) football where former quarterbacks are doing film studies breaking down what the play is trying to do, where the QB is supposed to be looking things of that nature having known it from the inside. I think Dosukoi Sumo has some of that but I'd love if there were more. https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/shows/5001458/
The Oyakata channel on youtube recently did a breakdown of all of Aonishiki’s bouts from the January Tournament (https://youtu.be/wR7Ix8aFjSM?si=laATui-uP4kj-hIS). Some good insights there. And wonderful work on the data! I've started compiling some info on my own just for fun, so this was wonderful to see!
Thank you! Unfortunately I think for that it'd require some pretty extensive analysis and expert input. There are probably a good amount of matches where you could ascertain the strategy/intended kimarite* and that would be useful and add info but it's definitely beyond me haha. Definitely something I'll keep in mind for the future though. Thanks again for reading!
*I imagine something like PFF (pro football focus) where they have insight from real coaches and players and multiple people grading each play

Thanks! Will definitely have to check it out!
Very interesting, like every other posts! Thanks 👍
It could be interesting if we had also the kimarite the wrestler tried to win with. It could probably give another insight on wrestlers types 🤔
